KYC Rules and Information (abridged version (Changes in red) )

 The Bar

KYC operates a private members-only full service bar.

Fridays:                      5:30 PM – 11:00 PM

Wednesdays:             5:30 PM – 11:00 PM

April – August or September

Special KYC Events:            As scheduled.

Members have charging privileges at the bar. Monthly tabs are mailed with the Scuttlebutt. The policy is that outstanding tabs be PAID MONTHLY. For information about your account contact the Vice Commodores at home.

 Board of Directors

The officers and a five member board of directors oversee KYC. Elections are held annually during the month of December. All KYC members are encouraged to attend board meetings at the club on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 P.M.

 Boat Ramp

The boat ramp is located at the north end of the clubhouse adjacent to the lifting crane, or yacht hoist.  It is for the use of members only. After you have launched your boat, please park your vehicle and trailer in the main parking lot.

 Boat Trailers

Storage is available at the small-secured lot to the north of the club grounds. Cost is $5 per season.  .

Children

KYC is a family oriented club and children are welcome. We are however, concerned about child safety. Parents and their guests are responsible for the personal supervision of their children at all times and are not to rely upon other members or employees of the club to watch their children.

Children under 12 years of age, unless they can demonstrate their ability to swim, are required to wear life jackets when they are on the grounds or beaches near the water or playing in the water. All children under 12 years of age are required to wear life jackets when they are on the docks or near the seawall.

Children may be present in the bar area when in the company of their parents. The Oregon State Liquor Control Board, however, requires that minors NOT be at the bar counter. Parents must order their children’s beverages.

 Dues

Monthly dues are $25.00. If you prefer to pay your membership annually, there is a one month discount. A total of $275.00 shall be paid in February. Unless otherwise requested, membership dues are billed monthly with the Scuttlebutt and payable to KYC, P.O. Box 1648, Klamath Falls, Or. 97601. For information on your account, please contact the treasurer.

Gates

Access to Club grounds is via the gates secured with combination locks. If you have not been informed of the # combination, please ask any KYC Officer. If you are the last person to leave the Club property, please be sure all gates are closed and locked.

Guests

Guests, when in the company of KYC members, are welcome at KYC sponsored events unless otherwise specified. Please have guests sign in the guest book located at the bar. Our private club liquor license makes this mandatory each time.

Youth Sailing Program

KYC Youth Program is for children 10-16 years old.  The program is open to the families of KYC members as well as the community.   Program is intended for skill levels from Beginner to Racers.   Juniors will be allowed to race in open-centerboard class on Wednesday nights. There will be a program fee.

Learn to Sail Classes

In the spring, as interest warrants, KYC typically sponsors Lear to Sail classes for members and the community. In the past, the series of evening classes has included classroom instruction and on-the-water training. Space is limited. There is a class fee. Watch the Scuttlebutt for details.

Lifting Crane (Hoist)

Operation of the lifting crane, or yacht hoist, is by qualified KYC members only. Please contact the Rear Commodore for qualification instructions. Lifting limit of the crane is 6,000 pounds. Any damage to the crane or boat being lifted is the sole responsibility of the boat owner.

Membership

The one time initiation fee is $100.00. Prospective new members must be sponsored by a member and approved by the Board of Directors. Membership applications are available from any officer or board member.

Moorage, Slip Assignments

Slip assignments are made by the Rear Commodores. They are based on fixed or retractable keel, draft and overall boat size.

KYC members may not “loan” their assigned slip to a non-member. If your boat is moored in a slip without the permission of the Rear Commodore, or is in a slip assigned to another member, the Rear Commodore may move it. Boats left in the water after November 1 will be fined $25 plus $5 per day thereafter (Adopted Nov. 2008).

Parking

General parking is in the main parking lot, south of the building. Temporary parking only is permitted in the launch/dry moorage area (asphalt to the north of the building). After launching your boat, please move your vehicle to the main parking lot. Your unattended vehicle could obstruct access to other member boats or the launch. Please watch out for lawn sprinklers.

During private clubhouse rentals, please be courteous. Leave the prime parking spaces—adjacent to the clubhouse or in view of the windows—for our renters’ use. The parking space adjacent to the entry is a designated Loading Zone reserved for the Vice Commodore.

Pets

KYC preferred policy is that pets be left at home. If you choose to bring your pet to the Club grounds with you, please clean up after them. You will find a shovel outside the tool room for this purpose.

Picnicking

The clubhouse grounds are open to members for picnicking except when they are reserved for private rentals. Please do not park on the lawns and watch out for sprinkler heads.

 Rentals

The clubhouse is available for member and private rentals such as wedding receptions, anniversaries, retirement parties, reunions, birthdays, business meetings, retreats, etc.

To reserve a date, a signed rental agreement plus a $125.00 deposit must be turned in. Bookings are made on a “first in” basis. Arrangements can be made for bar services, kegs, or special wines. For availability or questions, contact the club rental chairperson.

 Restrooms

For your convenience, Clubhouse restrooms and showers can be accessed at any time by combination lock from the north end of the building.

 Rigging Dock

The rigging dock located north of the boat ramp is reserved for rigging, launching and retrieving boats. Boats should not be left unattended.

 Safety & Security

KYC members are expected to maintain their boats in compliance with Oregon State Law and consistent with safe boating standards. They are to exhibit safe boating behaviors and practices at all times.

KYC members and visitors are solely responsible for the safety and security of their boat, possessions and assigned moorage. Members are cautioned to maintain their mooring lines and cleats as well as assigned slip fingers and docks. Tools are available in the tool room for minor finger and dock repairs.

Upcoming Events

In addition to announcing social events in the Scuttlebutt, when possible we try to e-mail or telephone and remind members of upcoming events. Your calling committee representative accepts RSVPs to all social events. If you RSVP and then cannot attend, you will be billed for the cost of your reservations to compensate the club for incurred expenses.

The method of notification is dependent on the member’s preference.  Please e-mail VinceKYC@aol.comif you want to get notice and make reservations by e-mail.

Visiting Guest Privileges

Visiting yachtsmen who are active members at other yacht clubs may, at the discretion of the Rear Commodore, be extended guest privileges on the grounds for up to two weeks without charge. As a member of the Klamath Yacht Club you have reciprocal privileges at many other yacht clubs.

Work Assessment

Every member has an annual 20-hour assessment. If you prefer, you can be assessed and billed at $10.00 per hour for a total of $200.00 per year.
